February 2004 Daily Devotionals Monday 23 February 2004John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
(To
know God is to know what He is like and to be on the
most intimate terms of friendship with Him; and this is possible
because of
Jesus Christ.) Tuesday 24 February 2004Psalm
68:19
Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens.
Wednesday 25 February 2004John 17:15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. (It is in the rough and tumble of life that I must live out my Christianity – I must not desire to abandon the world but desire to win it.) Thursday 26 February 2004John 17:17 Consecrate them by the truth; your word is truth. (Christ prayed this prayer for his disciples. But He also prayed this prayer for us. John 17:20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message …” Consecrate means to set aside for a special task and to equip with the qualities of mind and heart and character that are necessary for the task.) Friday 27 February 2004John 17:20,21 My prayer is … that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
(We can have unity if we live in union with God – by loving and obeying God. Jesus prayed for unity of personal relationships. We have unity when we love each other because God loves us. I do not have to create that unity – God already has – I just need to give expression to it.) |
