Daily Devotionals
Monday 2 September
Luke 19:42
“If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace — but now it is hidden from your eyes.
Tuesday 3 September
Luke 19:43-44
The days will come upon you when your enemies will build
an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.
They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls.
They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the
time of God’s coming to you.”
Wednesday 4 September
Luke 19:46
“It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be a house of prayer’; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
Thursday 5 September
Luke 20:3-4, 8
“I will also ask you a question. Tell me, John’s baptism
— was it from heaven, or from men?” “Neither will I tell you by what
authority I am doing these things.”
Friday 6 September
Luke 20:9-16
“A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers
and went away for a long time. At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants
so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants
beat him and sent him away empty-handed. He sent another servant, but that
one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed. He
sent still a third, and they wounded him and threw him out. “Then the
owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom
I love; perhaps they will respect him.’ “But when the tenants saw him,
they talked the matter over. ‘This is the heir,’ they said. ‘Let’s
kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they threw him out of the
vineyard and killed him. He will come and kill those tenants and give the
vineyard to others.” When the people heard this, they said, “May this
never be!”
Saturday 7 September
Luke 20:17
“Then what is the meaning of that which is written: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone’?
Sunday 8 September
Luke 20:18
Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”
Monday 9 September
Luke 20:24-25
“Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription
are on it?” “Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
Tuesday 10 September
Luke 20:34-36
“The people of this age marry and are given in marriage.
But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the
resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and
they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children,
since they are children of the resurrection.
Wednesday 11 September
Luke 20:37-38
But in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that
the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living,
for to him all are alive.”
Thursday 12 September
Luke 20:41-44
“How is it that they say the Christ is the Son of David?
David himself declares in the Book of Psalms: “‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
’ David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
Friday 13 September
Luke 20:46-47
“Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk
around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have
the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men
will be punished most severely.”
Saturday 14 September
Luke 21:3-4
“I tell you the truth,” “this poor widow has put in
more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their
wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Sunday 15 September
Luke 21:6
“As for what you see here, the time will come when not
one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.”
Monday 16 September
Luke 21:8
“Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will
come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not
follow them.
Tuesday 17 September
Luke 21:9
When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened.
These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”
