Daily Devotionals
Wednesday 18 September
Luke 21:10-15
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against
kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various
places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. “But before
all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver
you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors,
and all on account of my name. This will result in your being witnesses to
them. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.
For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be
able to resist or contradict.
Thursday 19 September
Luke 21:16-19
You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives
and friends, and they will put some of you to death. All men will hate you
because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. By standing firm
you will gain life.
Friday 20 September
Luke 21:20-28
“When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies,
you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea
flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the
country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment
of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant
women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath
against this people. They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners
to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the
times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. “There will be signs in the sun, moon
and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the
roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive
of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At
that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great
glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads,
because your redemption is drawing near.”
Saturday 21 September
Luke 21:29-33
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout
leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so,
when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is
near. “I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away
until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but
my words will never pass away.
Sunday 22 September
Luke 21:34-35
“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with
dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close
on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live
on the face of the whole earth.
Monday 23 September
Luke 21:36
Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able
to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand
before the Son of Man.”
Tuesday 24 September
Luke 22:8, 10-12
“Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
“As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow
him to the house that he enters, and say to the owner of the house,
‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover
with my disciples?’ He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make
preparations there.”
Wednesday 25 September
Luke 22:15-18
“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you
before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment
in the kingdom of God.” “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell
you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of
God comes.”
Thursday 26 September
Luke 22:19-20
“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance
of me. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for
you.
Friday 27 September
Luke 22:21-22
But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with
mine on the table. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed, but woe
to that man who betrays him.”
Saturday 28 September
Luke 22:25-27
“The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those
who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are
not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest,
and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one
who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the
table? But I am among you as one who serves.
Sunday 29 September
Luke 22:28-30
You are those who have stood by me in my trials. And
I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that
you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging
the twelve tribes of Israel.
Monday 30 September
Luke 22:31-32,34
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.
But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when
you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. I tell you, Peter, before
the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
Tuesday 1 October
Luke 22:35-38
“When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did
you lack anything? But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag;
and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written:
‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must
be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.
That is enough,”

and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour — when darkness reigns.”
Monday 7 October
Luke 22:61
“Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”
Tuesday 8 October
Luke 22:67-70
“If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked
you, you would not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated
at the right hand of the mighty God. You are right in saying I am.”
Wednesday 9 October
Luke 23:28-31
“Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for
yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say,
‘Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts
that never nursed!’ Then“‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on
us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’For if men do these things when
the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

Sunday 13 October

his glory?”

Tuesday 15 October

will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You
are witnesses of these things.

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
